The role

The Trade Management and Deductions Specialist role is responsible for resolving customer deductions in an efficient and timely manner while identifying trends in customer behavior and assessing areas for improvement.

In addition, this role will help to manage the impute of trade promotions into the TPM system, analyze the results of trade promotions, while identifying and resolving all types of deductions, including cash and credits, and owning the financial integrity of all deduction-related transactions. The person in this role will understand the impact of such deductions on revenue, the income statement, and the balance sheet. Major responsibilities include root cause analysis, validation, resolution and reporting of all customer deductions and promotional imputes.

This position is full time, exempt and will be based at the Chosen Foods Headquarters in San Diego.

 The focus

  • Research and resolve deductions, including spoilage, cash discounts, promotional discounts, rebates, product returns, freight claims, and other adjustments taken by customers.
  • Through research, identify invalid customer deductions and develop specific reimbursement plans with sales team to recoup any amounts owed and to avoid future invalid deductions.
  • Identify deductions trends at the customer level by performing root cause analysis and communicate such trends to management; develop recommendations for the team to review and implement.
  • Create and maintain Chargebacks Manual with up to date information pertaining to all accounts.
  • Responsible for data accuracy, performance and reporting on periodic audits of the 3rd Party resources, when applicable.
  • Support sales team by imputing trade promotions into the trade promotional management tool. Make necessary updates while leading to ensure all promotions are kept in the TPM tool.
  • Help to analyze trade promotions by customer and promotional event.
  • Help support the sales team in managing overall trade spend.

The background

  • Degree or equivalent experience in accounting role
  • 1-3 years of direct experience in related position, e.g., deduction resolution, financial analysis and/or accounting in CPG trade promotions
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (e.g., understand data analysis functions and can use Pivot Tables) and PowerPoint (with exposure to SharePoint)
  • Experience working with a trade promotional management tool
  • Organized, detail-oriented self-starter who works well in uncertainty and can establish effective, scalable, and repeatable processes
  • Creative problem solver who takes ownership of his or her actions and can form recommendations to improve his or her functional domain of expertise
  • Comfortable working under timelines and (re)prioritizing tasks to accomplish broader organizational goals
  • Great interpersonal skills, customer service orientation and adept at internal/external relationship-building; ability to manage up and across the team, as well as cross-functionally
  • Proven skills in analysis of data trends, presentation and reporting
  • Strong aptitude for learning information systems; experience in Trade Promotion Management software implementation, including integration with ERP system (SAP and Adesso)
